In 2018, Jinan City implemented a water project in urban rivers to carry out sewage treatment on some rivers in the urban area to create a hydrophilic platform. The Pipeline Surveying and Mapping Branch of Jinan Institute of Surveying, Mapping, and Surveying undertakes the survey of shed-covered river channels such as Yangtouyu Xigou. Using high-tech green laser pointers, the surveying and mapping staff thoroughly surveyed the sewage outlets and sewage pipes in the river, collected detailed data, and provided basic data guarantee for subsequent work.
In a river section of Yangtouyu Xigou, Lixia District, five staff members of the Pipeline Surveying and Mapping Branch of Jinan City Surveying Institute are preparing for the shed cover riverway surveying. The open-air part of this section of the river is dry, but in the shed cover section, sewage is discharged along the line, and the depth of the flow is different, and the rushing water can be heard from the outside.
Shao Shicheng, chief engineer of the Pipeline Surveying and Mapping Branch, said that Yangtouyu Xigou is a river with mixed rain and sewage, and a lot of sewage is discharged into it. A good foundation was laid for the follow-up river management work.
Although it’s not summer, when you stand in the middle of the open-air river, you can still smell the pungent odor. The closer you get to the entrance to the shed, the stronger the taste. In order to ensure personal safety and allow the surveying and mapping to proceed smoothly, surveyors must be fully armed before entering the cave, bring walkie-talkies, flashlights, rain pants and rain boots, and equip them with a poison gas detector. In addition, it must be equipped with a gas mask and a compressed air bottle. “The water depth in the river can reach half a meter or one meter, and there will be toxic substances such as carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide in the air, so these safety equipment are necessary.” Shao Shicheng said.

The river has serious silt, the sewage flows, and the air is filled with stench.
