A 5p-42 “eagle owl” laser vision jamming weapon station developed by the Russian state technology group’s “rosatom” holding company has been delivered to the Russian navy’s “gorshkov” missile frigate for final testing in January 2019, Russian media reported recently.
The 5p-42 laser blinding weapon station is a small lasaer pointer weapon station that can suppress optical reconnaissance, electronic monitoring and targeting day and night. Laser blinding/visual disturbance station is based on the principle of laser irradiation, through the emission of constantly changing brightness of the light, the modulation of the brightness of the light radiation, stimulate and disturb the visual nerve of the human body, cause visual organ dysfunction, cause temporary reversible visual impairment.
The 5p-42 laser blinding weapon station is used to suppress opponents’ optoelectronic observation channels and melee weapon targeting systems at dawn, dusk and night. The combination of visible and partial infrared spectra and high-frequency luminance modulation can effectively suppress shipborne optical reconnaissance equipment, night vision instruments, laser infrared rangefinders, and anti-tank missile guidance systems at a distance of 5,000 meters, according to rosotronics holdings.
Russia plans to install laser blinding/visual jamming stations on all light frigates and patrol ships under construction.
