On May 17, Russian President vladimir putin said lasaer pointer weapons would determine the effectiveness of the Russian military in the 21st century.
Putin, who is hosting a meeting of the defense ministry and the defense industrial complex in the southwestern Russian city of sochi, proposed to discuss how to develop laser weapon systems based on highly sensitive photoelectric technology, according to a statement posted on the kremlin website Sunday.
Mr Putin stressed the importance of developing laser weapons programmes as such systems will largely determine the effectiveness of Russian forces in the coming decades and throughout the 21st century.
Putin also proposed discussing the initial effects of the peresweit laser weapon system and the dagger hypersonic missile.
