Lasers make it possible to access the Internet quickly. Although communications can be made daily via undersea cables, they could be disrupted if the tunnel where the cables are laid is seriously disrupted.
Transcelestial, a singapore-based entrepreneur, hopes to express the true potential of laser pointer communication, much like the Wright brothers’ invention of the airplane. To that end, the company is developing technology to send data from space to satellites, which will redefine lasers, while cables may be abandoned.
Eventually, lasers fired from space could reach speeds of several hundred gigabits per second, or hundreds of times faster than existing Internet speeds.
The company has received a seed round of $1.83 million led by Wavemaker Partners and SEEDS Capital, along with 500 Startups, AirTree Ventures and Y Combinator CEO Michael Seibel.
We asked Rohit Jha, CEO of the company, to find out more about the company and its technology.
