The U.S. navy has ordered 12,000 precision laser guidance kits

On May 13, the defense department said the U.S. naval air systems command in the previously given out a contract (N00019-16 – D – 1002) based on the total amount awarded Boeing a $139.80843 million contract amendment, improves the contract value, thus for lasaer pointer-guided joint direct attack munition adds 12000 sets of precise laser guidance suite.

The joint direct attack munition (JDAM) is a low-cost guidance package that can be converted from existing unguided free-fall bombs into precision-guided “smart” weapons. The precision laser guidance suite is a new tail segment that includes inertial navigation systems and global positioning systems to improve stability and lift. Allowing munitions to be dropped precisely in all weather conditions, and extending the missile’s range, navigation systems provide new ways to hit targets.

In addition to the all-weather global positioning capability of conventional joint direct attack munitions, laser joint attack direct munitions also increase the ability to accurately locate moving targets and sea targets.
