The us air force has successfully used a laser weapon system to shoot down several missiles in flight, foreign media reported. The system is designed to eventually be installed on aircraft to protect them from attack.
This system called “self protection high-energy laser demonstrator (shields)”, including three main parts: lasaer pointer system, aiming at the control system and will provide power for all parts of pod, pod will be installed on the plane, with high precision and instant hit the mark, there is no limit to the carrying capacity, the pilot can quickly be aimed at other objectives, the advantages of traditional countermeasures or for the invalid.
The air force research laboratory conducted the test in April at the U.S. army’s white sands missile range in new Mexico. The system fires lasers from the ground and shoots down “multiple air-launched missiles in flight”.
Major general William cooley, commander of the air force research laboratory, said the test was “a big step forward for directed energy systems and protection against hostile threats.”
