The air force plans to test targeted weapons such as lasers and microwaves

According to foreign media reports, the us air force recently announced that it would carry out laser pointer, microwave and other directed energy weapon tests at the white sands missile range in new Mexico, and is currently making specific plans.

The air force says the experiment aims to gain insight into the effectiveness of existing high-power microwave and high-energy laser weapons.

In October 2018, the directed energy division of the air force research laboratory at kirtland air force base awarded a $36 million solid state laser effects and modeling program (SSLEM) contract to Ball Aerospace.

The air force has also publicly stated that it has conducted several laser weapons tests at the white sands missile range since 2009.
