Laser diodes are the future of lighting. Nobel Laureate in Physics Shuji Nakamura and his entourage visited to conduct on-site inspections and technical exchanges to discuss the future development prospects of the laser pointer industry. He believes that in the near future, LED technology will be subject to the physical limit of its luminous efficiency, and will eventually be replaced by laser technology. Laser technology may become a development trend in the display industry in the future. The reporter learned from the scene that Shuji Nakamura was also hired as the company’s chief scientific consultant. In the future, the two parties will conduct further research and cooperation in the application and industrialization of laser technology.
In an exclusive interview, Shuji Nakamura said that laser technology has very broad application prospects and markets in the fields of television, projection and lighting. “Compared with flat-panel TVs, the laser TV launched in cooperation with LG has a great advantage. Its cost is one-tenth of that of flat-panel TVs. Flat-panel TVs will be replaced by it in the future.
He said that 10 years ago, the price of each LED bulb in the United States was 200 US dollars, and now it is less than 10 US dollars. He believes that the universal application of laser lighting technology in more fields will promote the mass production of laser lighting. 10 years later, The price of laser lighting will be much lower than the current cost and selling price. In the next 5 to 10 years, laser lighting will replace LED lighting.
For example, he said that the application of laser headlights in car headlights is also very advantageous. The farthest illuminating distance of LED lights is 300 meters, while the farthest illuminating distance of laser headlights is 700~1000 meters. 100 meters, the LED high beam is 300 meters, and the LED laser hybrid lighting distance can reach 700 meters.
Moreover, compared with LED lights, laser headlights are point light sources with better directionality and higher safety. “Under the same temperature, the efficiency of laser lighting is hundreds to thousands of times that of LED lighting.” In addition, laser headlights also have the characteristics of smaller size and more compact structure, and have great advantages in appearance design.
As the “father of blue light”, Shuji Nakamura first developed high-brightness blue LEDs as early as 1993, and he was also the inventor of blue green laser pointer. Since the invention of ALPD laser fluorescent display technology in 2007, it has not only continuously improved the technology, but also expanded its research and development efforts to incorporate ALPD technology into products. The world’s first 100-inch laser TV, the first 20,000 lumens laser movie projector, and the industry’s first laser micro projector were born.
At present, the company’s laser projection business in movie theaters is growing extremely fast. In recent years, the domestic film industry has developed prosperously, and the box office of cinema chains has grown rapidly. The total box office of movies across the country was 29 billion yuan. In 2015, it reached 44 billion yuan, an increase of 48%. Cinema movie screening screens have also increased accordingly. In 2014, there were 22,000 cinema movie screening screens nationwide, and the total number exceeded 30,000 last year, an increase of more than 30%.
