Researchers at the Korean Academy of Advanced Sciences have developed a red laser beam that is scattered on the surface of food. If bacteria are distributed, the laser pattern will change accordingly. The ultra-fast camera captures the pattern changes, and the software distinguishes whether there are harmful bacteria on the food.
This sounds complicated, and Korean staff hope that the technology will become more acceptable. They hope to install a green laser pointer with a dongle on the refrigerator and obtain relevant test results through a smartphone, so as to enter daily life and ensure food safety.
At present, this technology can directly detect Bacillus cereus and E. coli, two common bacteria that cause food poisoning. This new type of laser is expected to be popularized worldwide for the prevention of food poisoning.
